Portland Grassroots Media Camp

Are you interested in learning more about the tools and skills needed to create your own media? Well, to those ambitious enough to answer yes, and who have time free this weekend, you should check out the Portland Grassroots Media Camp scheduled for August 24th - 26th here in Portland. The planners of the event are planning for a weekend of hands-on skills training and workshops designed to make media creation more accessible. The workshops are open to the public and FREE.

The workshops cover a wide variety of topics like:

• Adobe Photoshop
• Comics 101
• Creating a Webpage Using HTML
• Podcasting
• Digital Editing: Working With Short Interviews
• Imovie Boot Camp
• How to Create a Blog
• Different Methods of Audio Production
• Oral Histories—Interviewing Techniques
• The Basics of Silkscreening
• Writing a Press Release
• United Voices ZINE: Early Process and Peer Editing
• Setting Up a Press Conference

The Portland Grassroots Media Camp blog just posted a workshop schedule (pdf). Workshops will take place at seven venues spread across town, so check to see which venue is closest to you.

Class space is limited. To ensure a space for you is available, please RSVP. To RSVP, leave a message at (503) 236-7916 or send an email to bolivarianmedia(at)gmail.com with your name, phone number, email, organization, and the classes you would like to take in order of preference. Need translation for a class? Let us know in advance and we will try to have a translator of your language.

Last Minute Reminder for April’s Meeting

We’re talking about Video tonight; I’ve corralled a few people to be on our ad hoc panel and since we’re meeting at Wieden+Kennedy, we have an amazing space that will aid in our conversations (large projection screens, plenty of space, etc.). Bring your video cameras, digital cameras and laptops - if you got them.

Feel free to park on the street, because it’s free after 7pm here in Portland. I wasn’t able to get food or drinks so make sure to grab a coffee and a quick snack before the meeting.

Please thank the folks at Wieden+Kennedy some time tonight for opening up their awesome space for us.
