We are having a special event for the next Portland Social Media Club on June 26 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Portland Center For The Performing Arts!
Here’s the deal. A few months back, I was asked to do a mini-Podcast Hotel event for Platform, The International Animation Festival, coming to Portland June 25-30. They asked if we could come and hang out, teach animators about the wonders of podcasting, blogging and social media.
Heck, ya, i said. Spread the gospel? Count us in!
So, we’d love to have you there. Please bring your gear, your laptops, your mobile gadgets for an evening of conversation, interviews and sharing! We’ll show these creative folks why we get so dang excited about blogs, podcasts and RSS. Should be a great time. We may even be able to get a few passes to some of the screenings.
Please let us know if you can make it by visiting the event page over at Upcoming:http://upcoming.yahoo.com/event/207361
Just a note, the Portland Social Media Club event will be on the second floor of the Portland Center For The Performing Arts. It’s at 1111 SW Broadway, right next door to the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall. Just look for the Platform signs. It should be pretty clear.
Also, I am looking for volunteers almost every night of the event. If you want to join me there, just leave a comment. I’d love to have the company! I’ll work really, really hard on getting free screening passes for those who let me know!

Dan Harbison, who gave a great talk a few months back at one of our meetings, asked me to see if I knew anyone that would be great for an open position at the Portland TrailBlazers. If you’re a rock star with Flash and live on the Internet, take a look at the job description after the jump.

Nintendo, that lovable game console that most of us were raised on, will soon be revealing the winners of their Nintendo Short Cuts contest. Nintendo Short Cuts was created to give away $10,000…I mean, to attract filmmakers and creative types around creating a three to five minute Nintendo-themed film for submission into the contest.
As you can imagine, there are some craptacular videos posted on YouTube, but I wouldn’t recommend you watch ‘em. Instead, check out this amazing entry from Team Awesome. Simply genius and it really makes me want to walk down to my local Goodwill and snatch up a regular Nintendo for three fifty.

Hey Everyone,
After 18 months of development and a few months of running quietly behind closed doors, Public Press is ready for the world. The gates are open.
It may have been awhile since you’ve checked out Public Press. We’ve made a lot of changes and improvements to the site that we think you’ll really like. We have an updated FAQ that describes what we are trying to do with the site and how to use it. Check it out: http://publicpress.org/alchemy/faq.jsp
Go tell all your neighbors and friends. Spread the word. Write articles and keep your columns flowing with news and information. Upload pictures of your neighborhood via your mobile cameraphone.
Now that we are Public, you don’t need an account to read the site, you can share your columns and your posts with your friends, and all the googlebots in the world can come smashing down our doors. We are still a work in progress, with a lot of cool stuff coming soon, so expect improvements to keep on coming.
We have made some more changes to the site in preparation for this - the most notable of which is the dropdown menu under the logo. Use this to find your neighborhood or city.
So, invite your friends, send some links around, and lets build this community! We will be letting the new update settle down a bit (a week or so), and then we will begin avidly recruiting new people and new neighborhoods.
Many thanks to the faithful who have helped us test the site and seed it with your wonderful posts.
Please send feedback to team@publicpress.org.
Thanks,
Greg aka truth http://truth.publicpress.org
