SplashCast

MacWorld’s reports on the public beta version of SplashCast; now live and accepting signups!  I’ll quote their description of the service because it’s succinct.

The streaming channels produced by SplashCast users can also include narration and Really Simple Syndication (RSS) feeds. That content can then be played or syndicated on any Web site, blog or social networking page; when you update your SplashCast channel, the content is automatically update on any Web pages that have been “tuned” to that channel.

I’ve created a channel for Northwest Noise and placed it on my MySpace page.  It was easy to setup and simple to add a mp3 file to; next, I’ll be adding pictures, and a video - to see how that process goes.

Congrats to Alex and Marshall.

Persuasion vs. Influence

per·sua·sion [per-swey-zhuhn]

1. the act of persuading or seeking to persuade.

in·flu·ence [in-floo-uhns]

1. the capacity or power of persons or things to be a compelling force on or produce effects on the actions, behavior, opinions, etc., of others.

Thinking about Social Media and the year ahead, RadicalTrust publishes the article Creating the Platform and Targeting the Audience for Social Media and opens with this paragraph:

The task of the marketer today is not to buy media for persuasion, but rather it’s to construct a platform of influence. But who will use this platform and how will they engage?

What is a platform for influence? Is it the technology we use (Wiki, RSS, etc.)? Or, the web sites and blogs (YouTube, Google, etc.) we visit? Or is just the alpha and omega of this question and issue simply that anyone at anytime can publish on the Internet?

I own this book.

I had to buy it in college for a marketing class I was taking. It’s basically about social psychology and selling stuff. What would a book titled The Social Media Platform look and read like?

Social Media Boston’s Second Meeting

David Meerman Scott posts on Boston’s second Social Media Club meeting - a successful event, where much discussion was centered around the social media press release - I’d like to point you towards the Social Media Release blog by Chris Heuer; there’s only a few posts, but they excellently describe the elements of the social media release.

I’m posting this hedging my bets that there might be public relations experts or budding communicators that are just dipping their toe into areas and functions of the Internet they’ve never seen or taken part in.  There’s also a group of people that just enjoy staying on top of the latest happenings and conversations around social media.  If all this interests you, here’s a couple more links regarding the social media release.
